This website is a resource we hope you’ll find both useful and informative.

Comprehensive examination and treatment planning

Dr. Jackson will perform a comprehensive oral evaluation with you and your child. Any findings will be explained to you in detail and to the child in age-appropriate language. Your child’s treatment will include preventive strategies, oral hygiene instructions, dietary review, and an individualized treatment plan developed specifically for your child. Dr. Jackson’s patient-centered approach will ensure a lifetime of excellent oral health for your most-prized possession – your child!

Dental House Calls

Dr. Jackson founded Pediatric Dental Housecalls in 2012 in order to meet the total needs of pediatric dental patients.  Dr. Jackson realized that when emergencies and accidents occur, it is not always convenient for busy families, many with multiple children, to travel to the dental office with the child who is in pain as well as other children. Dental Cleaning

Dr. Jackson recommends that at your child’s first visit, he or she receive a dental cleaning. Regular dental cleanings are an important component of good oral health. After your child’s initial comprehensive examination and dental cleaning, Dr. Jackson will recommend a cleaning schedule specifically designed for your child. This schedule is typically twice per year, but may be different according to your child’s particular dental needs.

Fluoride treatments

Frequent, low dose fluoride exposure, such as that received in drinking water, toothpaste, and professional fluoride treatments provided by your pediatric dentist, remains the best measure for preventing cavities. In combination with good home hygiene, a healthy diet, regular dental visits, and appropriate fluoride exposure, it is very possible to raise a cavity free kid! Dr. Jackson will assess your child’s caries risk and recommend the appropriate amount of fluoride for your child. Please visit the website of the American Dental Association (www.ada.org) for scientific articles verifying the safety of fluoride as a proven preventive strategy for cavity prevention.

Orthodontics

We will provide each child with an orthodontic screening.  If your child requires orthodontic treatment, we will refer him or her to a qualified orthodontist.

Digital Radiography (x-rays)

Northeast Pediatric Dentistry utilizes the latest advances in digital radiography. Our state of the art equipment and digital radiographs will ensure that your child receives the maximum diagnostic value at the lowest radiation exposure possible. We take necessary precautions to limit your child’s radiation exposure such as lead apron shields. Digital x-rays are also better for the environment because no chemicals are required to develop the picture; it is all digital!

Sealants

Sealants are a preventive treatment that help protect your child’s molar teeth against the formation of cavities. Dr. Jackson will evaluate your child at the initial visit and recommend sealants if they have not been placed previously. Dr. Jackson will also check your child’s sealants at every cleaning appointment to make sure your child has the most protection possible against developing cavities. Sealants are painless and very simple to place. No anesthesia is required.

Tooth-colored fillings (Composite Fillings)

Tooth-colored (composite) fillings are a very esthetic and durable option for pediatric dental patients. They look like the natural color of your child’s teeth and help instill confidence and self-esteem when your child smiles. Sometimes, cavities are too large to receive tooth-colored fillings. However, whenever appropriate, Dr. Jackson will recommend tooth-colored fillings to restore the health of your child’s teeth. Tooth-colored fillings are used when teeth have been affected by decay, chipped or fractured, worn teeth, and sometimes to close space between two teeth.

Pulpotomies (baby root canals)

When a cavity is so large that it reaches the nerve of the tooth, in many instances a pulpotomy or ‘baby root canal’ must be performed to maintain the life of the tooth and to relieve pain. It is important to maintain primary (baby) teeth until the permanent replacement tooth comes in. Pulpotomies are a simple procedure that allows these teeth to be saved until it is time for them to fall out naturally.

Stainless steel crowns

Frequently in primary teeth and some adult molars, the cavity is so large that a tooth-colored filling or other types of fillings cannot be placed. In these teeth with large cavities, after removal of the decay, there is not enough natural tooth structure left to hold a filling in place. In these particular cases, stainless steel crowns are the restoration of choice. Stainless steel crowns are durable and provide protection for the remaining tooth until it is time for that tooth to fall out naturally or the child reaches the age when a permanent crown can be placed on that tooth (in the case of permanent teeth).

Tooth-colored crowns

Tooth-colored crowns are available and provide a more natural looking option for restoring large cavities. Please ask Dr. Jackson and her staff if tooth-colored crowns are an option for your child.
